Pupil Premium Grant

The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to help schools support pupils who may face additional barriers to learning. At Nexus School, this funding is used to ensure that all pupils, particularly those who are disadvantaged, are supported to make meaningful progress from their individual starting points.

Pupil Premium funding is allocated to schools based on the number of pupils who have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the last six years. Schools also receive funding for pupils who have been looked after by the local authority, adopted from care, left care under a Special Guardianship, Residence or Child Arrangements Order, and for children of service personnel.

At Nexus School, our use of Pupil Premium funding is guided by our Pupil Premium Statement 2025–2026, which sets out how we identify barriers to learning, plan targeted support and review the impact of our provision. This strategy reflects our Nexus values of care, inclusion, high expectations and working in partnership with families.

Our approach recognises that pupils at Nexus have a wide range of complex needs and that progress looks different for every child. For this reason, Pupil Premium funding is used to support progress across all areas of pupils’ Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), including communication, learning, emotional wellbeing, independence and engagement with school life.

Through our Pupil Premium Strategy, funding is used to:

  • support pupils to make progress towards their individual EHCP outcomes
  • promote emotional wellbeing and readiness to learn through counselling and therapeutic support
  • provide targeted teaching, interventions and specialist resources
  • remove barriers to attendance, engagement and participation
  • ensure all pupils have equitable access to enrichment activities, trips and wider experiences
  • work closely with families to offer early help, guidance and practical support where needed

The impact of Pupil Premium funding is regularly reviewed through pupil progress meetings, EHCP reviews and assessment tools such as Evidence for Learning and B Squared. This ensures that support remains responsive, effective and focused on meeting pupils’ individual needs.

If you have any questions about Pupil Premium or would like to discuss the support available for your child, please contact the school. We are always happy to help.
