An update on everything this term!

What a busy few weeks here at Nexus! It’s nearly been non-stop here with all the activities and events we’ve been up to. Sports, leavers, boat expeditions and Hillfest, all have kept us busy, smiling and enjoying the sun.

On the 3rd of June, we competed in Hillfest. This is a competition hosted by Hillview School and it brings together many schools from the local community. It once again, gave us the opportunity to pull together our pupils who are passionate about art, singing, signing and dancing. Our choir sang their hearts out performing Hakuna Matata, Sweet Caroline and other songs whilst our dancers performed to a selection of tracks from Aladin.

Overall, in Hillfest we came out with achievements and awards for our hard work. We came second place in our choir and contemporary dance awards, but we got first in the Spirit of Dance Category! Alongside this, a few of our students got awards individually for their artwork. We would love to extend a massive thank you to Vicky for organising this event, all the staff who helped make it possible and lastly all the children who gave it their all.

We decided to try something new this year. Instead of having a sports day we had a sports week. Leaving the normal sports day activities behind we tried a whole load of new activities. We had gymnastics, Bollywood dancing, ultimate frisbee, roller discos, skateboarding, scooting, Singing Hands, sound bath and lastly to end off the week, a 100ft inflatable obstacle course. All of this presented new challenges to our students and all of them stood up to it, they developed their perseverance and resilience and gave everything a try. A huge thank you to our PE lead Jess who made this possible and we look forward to next year where it can only grow in scope.

This term has also held our leaver’s celebrations, a time when classes are coming together to celebrate their time here at Nexus with friends and staff. With some leaving Nexus to go to college or into work, some to go to a new secondary school and others going up to our upper school here. The celebrations are always a lovely time for staff, students and family to come together and reminisce about their favourite memories. No matter where our students go, we will be proud of them and hope that they stay in touch so we can hear about what they are up to.

On Thursday, we also had our Prize Giving Ceremoney. This was where we took an opportunity to celebrate the growth that our students have undergone. We want students to be recognised for what they have accomplished both academically and personally. Prizes have been given out for topics such as communication, work in subjects and a variety of other topics.

There has also been a more detailed account of the Duke of Edingburgh boat expedition. for those who are interested, please follow this link.

Thank you to all who have gotten involved throughout this term to all the events, trips and activities that have gone on, without your support and time we wouldn't have been able to provide these experiences for our children.
