Ightam Visit To Barnes Lodge Care Home

Ightam Visit To Barnes Lodge Care Home
Posted / 3-06-26

On 22nd of April, Ightham class visited the Barnes Lodge Care Home in Tonbridge. The purpose of the visit was to meet and socialise with the residents, the average age for moving into a care home is 85–94 (44% of residents), with a significant portion also entering between 75–84. While generally designed for older adults (65+), care homes can accommodate individuals over 18 with specific needs. The majority ofresidents are aged 85 or older.

To break up their day, a few of us decided to sing some old tunes that they might want to sing along to. Another pupil sang a number of songs including Sweet Caroline and I sang Sky Full Of Stars, all of the songs were very much appreciated.

Our visit was also an opportunity for us to consider Barnes Lodge as a place of work. For the 1st time Barnes Lodge is opening its doors to Nexus students and giving them the chance to work alongside residents and staff.

We look forward to developing this important relationship between Nexus and Barnes Lodge.
