Nexus performs for VE Day!
A short week at Nexus doesn’t stop the school from being so busy. From classwork and MakaMay, to soft play days out and performing at care homes, everyone here has been working hard and having fun. We would also like to remind parents that on May 15th, there will be a themed own clothes day for children in celebration for MakaMay.
This past Wednesday, after weeks of practicing and joining up with Oakley School, Nexus pupils went to perform a selection of songs to an audience of people at a care home. The two schools performed a variety of songs from around the 1940s for the people at Barnes Lodge. Throughout the songs more of the crowd joined in and by the end nearly the whole room was full singing and chanting.
Then again today, the wonderful performers of Nexus and Oakley sung their hearts out again at school. On the Tonbridge site it was an even bigger room but still just as big crowd full of friends, family, staff and more. It was a very powerful performance with so much love and care put into it. We hope that all of those involved know that they should be extremely proud of themselves for dedicating so much time to this and being incredibly passionate about their work.
Just yesterday as well our first student written article has been posted on the website. Pupils are now able to write about their experiences for everyone to see. Anyone can write about what they have been up to for the website. The first article to be published has been created by one of our Post-16 students, if you would like to read it please follow this link.
For this week of MakaMay we have had a mix of classes playing Makaton bingo. A teacher would sign a word and then the pupils would sign it back and call out the word. Whilst there wasn’t much competition, pupils and adults spent more time supporting and helping each other learn with their signing.
